Medical Marijuana in LouisianaAs already discussed elsewhere on this site, medical marijuana patients in the state of Louisana still have no protection under the law and, therefore, risk arrest each and every time they acquire or take their medicine. In fact, even for a first offense of possession of one single joint the ill patient risks up to six months incarceration.

When SB 576
was passed into law last year (2010) it had the effect of increasing the penalty for second-offense possession by including a mandatory minimum fine of $250 plus 48 hours in jail! Yet, when the 2011 legislature adjourned in June there was still no let up in this situation.

If you are a Louisana resident needing to use marijuana for medical reasons, then you can help by writing your state legislators and urge them to support marijuana decriminalization
