We have already written plenty of articles on how marijuana remains heavily under researched. Times are changing though; mostly due to the overwhelming support marijuana has gained over the years. The general public is starting to realize the potential benefits of medical marijuana and business people are looking to cash in. Naturally, wherever there’s marijuana – there is smoke (or vapor). With this outpouring of positive attitudes regarding medical marijuana, scientists have begun to research this extremely giving plant. What they have found is a new compound called Tetrahydrocannabivarin. In its abbreviated form, we shall refer to it as either TCHV or THV.
Is This A New Compound?
Don’t get me wrong, the compound is nothing new, we have only began to notice its existence within the cannabis plant. The most popular compounds so far have been THC and CBD. Even to the most random layman, it is obvious that THC gets you stoned while CBD is mostly responsible for the medicinal effects of marijuana. With that in mind, THCV is not a miracle compound but considering its predecessors, it does have some very interesting traits. For instance, marijuana usually gives you a serious case of the munchies; there is no doubt about that. However, this particular compound is will actually help you suppress your appetite or simply postpone that hungry feeling for later on.
Found In Every Strain
Of course, the amount of that compound varies depending on the strain. Until now, it was commonly believed that THCV is only found in sativa’s. However, a recent research study that was published in the American Journal of Botany states that THCV can also be found in hybrids and indica’s. The study encompasses around 160 strains so the results are more than credible. Strains that contained the highest THCV are Jack The Ripper, Durban Poison, Skunk #1 and Dutch Treat; so keep an eye out for those if you want to suppress hunger. However, Durban Poison definitely takes the trophy here because it tested for 1% of THCV.
What you should not do after you have read this article is go and buy a pound of Durban Poison and blaze it into oblivion just because THCV is the next hot thing on the market. We have simply started to acknowledge its existence, noticed it has a somewhat opposite munchies effect and that’s about it. So it still remains under researched and should be treated as such. Don’t go around causing a shortage of Durban Poison and then blame it on me afterwards.
Marijuana Research Boom
On the upside, this discovery marks a huge step forward in marijuana research. Soon, it will be impossible not to open the newspaper without some new breakthrough in marijuana research and we welcome that with open arms because after decades of prohibition, marijuana is finally making a comeback. THCV is just the beginning. There are hundreds, if not thousands of un-researched compounds within the cannabis plant so basically we haven’t even begun to scratch the surface yet. We are looking forward to new discoveries.
