Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of over 100 compounds found in cannabis called cannabinoids. Of these compounds, CBD comes second to tetrahydrocannabinol THC when it comes to average volume. The levels of CBD found in marijuana tends to vary among different plants. Unlike THC, CBD is a non-psychoactive marijuana compound and has been found to have medical uses with minimal side effects.
Marijuana refers to using the unprocessed marijuana plant or its basic extracts to treat an illness or symptom that come along. Medical marijuana can be consumed in different ways which include smoking, vaporizing, eaten (in the form of cookies or candy), taken as a liquid extract or typically as a cream.
Medical benefits of CBD
Over the years, research has shown CBD to have palliative, anti-inflammatory, and anti-anxiety properties. CBD has been found to cure certain symptoms to several illnesses. Among these are reducing nausea and vomiting, combating psychosis disorders, suppressing seizure activity, combating neurodegenerative disorders and helping with anxiety and depression.
It may also be useful in controlling epileptic seizures, and possibly even treating mental illness and addictions. It has also shown positive impact on conditions that are difficult to treat such as Cohn’s diseases, PSTD, and multiple sclerosis.
When combined together, THC and CBD have a sedative effect cutting down on the anxiety, paranoia, and memory impairment that many users find unpleasant or debilitating with regular marijuana.
These pathways, called CB1 receptors, are highly concentrated in the brain and are responsible for the mind-altering effects of THC. CBD seems to offer natural protection against the marijuana high. Numerous studies suggest that CBD acts to reduce the intoxicating effects of THC, such as memory impairment and paranoia. Both CBD and THC have been found to present no risk of overdose. However, to reduce potential side effects, medical users may be better off using cannabis with higher levels of CBD.
Medications that contain CBD
Several European countries have approved nabiximols (Sativex), a mouth spray containing THC and CBD. It treats muscle control problems. The United States is conducting clinical trials for its safe use in treating cancer pain.
Epidiolex is an oil formulation of CBD extracted from the cannabis plant that was created by scientists to treat certain forms of childhood epilepsy.
NOTE: The use of CBD medicine should be under a doctor’s orders.
The United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), recently eased some of the regulatory requirements for those who are conducting FDA-approved clinical trials on cannabidiol (CBD). However, CBD is still classified as a Schedule 1 drug in the United States.
Because the marijuana plant contains chemicals that may help treat a range of illnesses and symptoms, making it legal in the US will allow more research and hence more discoveries into its health benefits.
However most people across the world who buy CBD oil with no face any legal issues.
