Medical History and Medical Marijuana
July 28th, 2009

Today I am sharing a letter from on of our visitors to our site. As he posed a very interesting question about building up a medical history, before you can be prescribed medical marijuana.

Considering I was unsure of the answer, I decided to le the community answer the question. The following is the exact email I received:

Hello my name is John, I live in Texas, but plan on moving to california, in orange county, if all goes well.

I have been having insomnia, since my son who is 17 soon to be 18 got his girl friend pregnant, I am worried about his situation, he has been ordered to court for a child support/custody hearing.

Also have headaches, back aches from an injury when i was younger, and muscle spasms in my legs. I am 48, as i get older the pain is more present than it was when I was younger.

I have no medical history of my insomnia, spasms, or headaches, no medical insurance. So I just cope with these chronic symptoms.

My question is, would the lack of a medical history for these problems exclude me from getting a prescription for medical marijuana in orange county, CA?

To answer your question about getting the recommendation, no, you will not. However, it's my opinion that the way things are being operated now is about to change hugely. I have yet to see a dispensary or delivery service that operates in true compliance with SB420. These are not patient groups, they are fronts for marijuana selling. With two other principals, I've helped start the Medical Marijuana Buyers Club (www.medicalmarijuanabuyersclub.com), a true non-profit with more on the agenda than selling cannabis. You're welcome to visit but must be in specific cities to join and access members area.

It is so sad that such a letter would've never been written here in Germany because marihuana is still completely ilegal here. My nephew has suffered from prostate cancer (thank god he beat the illness) and medical marihuana would've helped a lot to ease the chemo side effects

I'm from Southern California. It's easy to get your medical cannabis recommendation.

Walk into any dispensary and they'll have cards and doctor recs for you, or simply look up medical MJ docs on the internet. It's not difficult, there are docs who specialize in medical marijuana rec's, and you don't need to show any "history." All you need to do is tell the doc you suffer from insomnia, stress, pain, whatever your symptom is. They don't really care about your history. You don't need medical charts or any documentation. All you need is the cash for the consult and the license.
To get your card, you need the IDs the previous poster detailed.
Cancer patient…if you live in California, nobody is going to come after you and take away your shit. As long as you have your license, you're legal, and frankly…nobody's looking to take weed away from terminal cancer patients. Try to relax and not be too paranoid. Mix in some Indica.

    Smoke up Cali!

I am considered a terminal cancer patient who has had 6 Abdominal surgeries and am still going through the horrors of chemo along with my abdomen healing from my recent surgery just 2 weeks ago. I just have a letter from my doctor and can't afford the official card (it's too expensive for me right now); I was nearly put on hospice care but begged to be given another chance at survival. Currently cannabis is keeping me alive by ensuring that I drink plenty of water or fluids and reminding me to eat as well as keeping the pain level down. I am dangerously thin and am also on a feed bag supplement. Do you think that I could be arrested for not registering properly?
Please feel free to check out my blog for what I endure.
